Charlotte Studio Artists was founded by three local artists, Catherine Kanvik, Jodi Lynn McNeely, and Walter Sanders, who saw the possibility of creating an artist-led collective. Their search for space led to NoDa and the Johnston YMCA. The group has grown from the original three founders to more than thirty artists. Their art practices and personalities reflect a diverse range of mediums, styles, interests, and needs.”
The organization, in partnership with the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, occupies space in the former Child Development Center next to the Johnston YMCA.
YMCA leadership had the vision and courage to rent space to CSA, whose artists volunteer time and talent to support art-related programs offered by the Johnston YMCA.
